So I have had a couple of requests for a blog and weekly travel report (you know who you are J).. So here goes; we are 2 weeks in but I will start with a quick overview from the beginning.
We arrived in Fiji at around 5am on Nov 6th after a couple of layovers in the states. Unfortunatley our luggage wasn’t so lucky.. it actually missed Fiji all together!! We took a taxi to Denarue Port, bought as much sunscreen, toothpaste, etc as we had time to pickup and boarded the boat to Mana Island. It was a bit rainy on the boat but we loved it! We stopped at several islands dropping people off; one was so tiny you could see the entire island from the top of the boat. It looked like it was only large enough for maybe a 30 room hotel. When the boat arrived at Mana Island it begin to pour. We got off on the dock and hurried to the ‘waiting bure’ (little grass roof thing with benches to sit but no walls). Inside the bure there were a bunch of school children from probably ages 3-12 I’d say, they were all singing and cheering as we came towards them. It was too cute! (I took video but the mic was off so it didn’t record sound L)
Anyways, the island was beautiful and weather cleared up and got nice and hot after 1.5 days of rain. The resort is situated on the center of the island and actually faces onto the north and south beach. The beaches were amazing and the snorkeling was really good. We decided to walk around the entire island and did it in 2 parts. In total it was about 1.5 hour walk. We had an ocean view room which was nice but found it really expensive in Fiji; for $200 CND/night it was a 3star I’d say. The Fijian food was amazing.. all the other food was just ok. The best part of the trip really was the people. The Fijian people are the nicest people I have come across. Always stop to say “Bula” (hello) and have a great big smile on their face. We had heard about how the service can be on “Fiji time” (slow) and it was slower than you would expect at home but it really did not bother us as we were on vacation and they were so very friendly.
